[Questions]

Read the following quotes taken from Chapter 3 of What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20.
With your partner discuss the questions below.
“The rules made by society are a huge presence in our lives, created by the government, religious groups, our employers, our schools, our neighbors, and our families. Because these social groups craft the explicit rules around us, we often find ourselves in situations where we are driven to break them to satisfy our personal desires or the drives of our species.” p/33
“Everyday, physical signs tell all of us what to do, written instructions direct us how to behave, and social guidelines urge us to act within specific parameters. In fact, we also make lots of rules for ourselves, in large part encouraged by others. These rules become woven into our individual fabric as we go through life.” p/33
“We draw imaginary lines around what we think we can do – lines that often limit us much more than the rules imposed by society at large.” p/33
“We define ourselves by our professions, our income, where we live, the car we drive, our education, and even by our horoscope. Each definition locks us into specific assumptions about who we are and what we can do.” p/34
“We always make our own prisons, with rules that we each create for ourselves, locking us into specific roles and out of an endless array of possibilities.” p/34

Do you agree with these quotes?
- I don't want like these quotes but, I agree that is true.

When is a rule really just a suggestion? And when do suggestions morph into rules?
 - It depends on our mind. If you think something is really not important, it is just suggestion.

What are the consequences – good and bad – of getting “off the prescribed path” (breaking the rules)?
- The good thing is that you can be a creativity person and you will make differences.
the bad thing is you have to take a risk.

What happens to those who break the rules?
 - They will be alone and Society will make him social misfit. But if he continues break the rules, he will be successful and others will agree him.

(2) Post an example of the ‘herd’ mentality in action. [e.g.] photo or video (your blog)

(3) On this day the expression ‘OK’ entered into the American vernacular. What does it mean and who is credited as being the first person to use the expression publicly.

'ok' has lots of means.
 1. When you accept to the others proposal.
 2. yes ; all right
 3. used to stop people arguing with you
 4. safe and well

The origin of this widely used expression is much debated but one of the more plausible suggested origins is that it was abstracted from the O.K. Club formed in 1840 by partisans of Martin Van Buren who allegedly named their organisation in allusion to 'Old Kinderhook', his birthplace being in Kinderhook, New York.

How can I solve my problem with random object!

My problem - This semester I always have been getting health problems, jaw disorder.
Random object -Text Book!

Ironically, I have to solve my health problem with object that might cause the problem.
However, I will never give up to solve it. Let's see how I arrange my disgusting problem.

Although reading a book is not good for Jaw disorder(because it makes neck muscle tired), I have to keep reading a book for my studying. So, I cannot throw it away. I will use it as massage bar to relax neck muscle.

In addition, if I read it ahead of class, I will not be under stress so that  it prevents a recurrence of an illness.

More to a Smile Than Lips and Teeth

a. What according to Dr. Niedenthal, is the scientific explanation for smiling?
Smiles are not simply the expression of an internal feeling. Smiles in fact are only the most visible part of an intimate melding between two minds.
b. How did Dr. Niedenthal and her colleagues begin to study the science of smiling?
Despite the fact that smiling is one of the most common things that we humans do, science’s explanation for it to be weak.
c. According to the article, is it correct to say a smile is simply an expression reflecting feelings of happiness? Explain. No,  sometimes muscles contract when people are feeling sadness or disgust same as they feel happiness.
That's why we cannot say smile is an expression of feeling of happiness.

d. What are some of the categories smiles fall into? What are some of the distinguishing features of each?
Smiles can fall into many different kinds and they may be distinguished by certain expressions. For example, an embarrassed smile is often accompanied by a lowered chin, while a simile of greeting often comes with raised eyebrows.

e. Is it possible that people use smiles to gain some advantage over others? How?
Of course yes. Though there is a real smile, many people make false smile to gain some advantage from others. For example, when we meet someone who has relation with business or studying, we try to show them that we are smiling because we know they will be comfortable and have positive impression with us.

How to solve the Ribya crisis with one rubber band (17th March)

I think we can use this rubber band to show our peace-like mind to the world.
I mean we can put it on like bracelet and collect money to help poor libyan.
The world will change and everyone will donate money for libyan so that Gaddafi cannot keep doing war.
The important thing is that we show our opinion by putting on rubber band and paying money but only reading newspaper in the house.
